How to Make Delicious Gelato at Home

Do you love gelato but don’t want to always rely on gelaterias for a sweet fix? Well, look no further because today we are going to learn how to make this creamy Italian treat right in the comfort of your own home.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Flavorings of your choice (e.g. cocoa powder, fruit puree, coffee extract, etc.)

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk and heavy cream. Heat the mixture over medium heat until it starts to simmer. Do not let it boil.

  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar and egg yolks until they are well combined and slightly thickened.

  3. Slowly pour a ladle of the warm milk mixture into the egg mixture while whisking constantly. This will help temper the eggs and prevent them from scrambling.

  4. Gradually pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan with the remaining milk mixture. Stir continuously over medium heat until the mixture thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.

  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. At this point, you can also add your desired flavoring.

  6. Let the mixture cool to room temperature, then cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.

  7. Once the gelato base is thoroughly chilled, pour it into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

  8. Transfer the churned gelato into a container and freeze for at least 2 hours before serving.

  9. Scoop the creamy gelato into cones or bowls, and enjoy the taste of Italy in every bite.

Now that you have the know-how, go ahead and experiment with different flavor combinations to create your perfect gelato.
